Pierre Alain Trévelo

Pierre Alain Trévelo is a founding partner of the architecture and urban planning firm TVK, with Antoine Viger-Kohler.
Born in 1973 in Gap (France), he is an architect and urban planner who graduated from the École d'architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est in 1999 (DPLG) and from Harvard's Master of Urban Planning in 2004 (MDesS - Harvard GSD). TVK pursues an approach in which theory and practice respond to and enrich each other. The agency's projects, both in France and abroad, illustrate this specificity.

TVK designs buildings: in Amiens, in 2024, TVK won the international competition for the construction of the future Conservation Centre of the French National Library. In Paris, the agency has completed the construction of a mixed-use ‘Zero Carbon’ block made of load-bearing solid stone buildings designed for the first ‘Réinventer Paris’ consultation. In Arcueil, it has converted an office building into student accommodation. In Brussels, it rehabilitated a long, tall building containing 351 social housing units, in an occupied environment.
TVK also creates public spaces, notably the transformation of the Place de la République in Paris, the Place de la Gare for the city of Lausanne in Switzerland, and the Piazza dei Cinquecento and the area around Termini station in Rome, Italy.
Lastly, TVK is involved in large-scale urban projects on sites where infrastructure is a key feature, including Porte Pouchet in Paris, where the ring road crosses; the Garonne Eiffel site in Bordeaux on the banks of the river; Campus Grand Parc in Villejuif around the Gustave Roussy hospital; and Porte de Montreuil in Paris above the ring road and the metro.
TVK is also continuing its theoretical and written work. After two books on the Paris ring road, the agency led the Atelier des Places du Grand Paris and published the Guide des Places du Grand Paris. Recently, TVK was invited by Hashim Sarkis to present an installation at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale. It was accompanied by the eponymous book La Terre est une architecture, published by Spector Books in spring 2021.

After teaching at ENSA Paris Est from 2000 to 2015 and at the Master Urbanisme at Sciences Po from 2006 to 2012, Pierre Alain Trévelo will become co-director of the DSA in architecture and urban planning from 2021. He has also been Chairman of the Board of ENSA Paris Est since 2023. He is also a regular guest lecturer at a number of architecture schools and institutions in France and abroad, including EPFL Lausanne, UDP Santiago de Chile, ETSAV Barcelona, Hochschule Bremen, ARC USI Mendrisio, ENSA Marseille, ENSA Nantes and the Institut pour la Ville en Mouvement in Sao Paulo.
