Julien Romane
Born in 1987, Julien Romane is an architect and urban planner, and teaches as a lecturer in the Bachelor's program and in the DSA d'architecte-urbaniste, a post-graduate program at the École d'architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est.
He has worked in a number of architectural firms in Marseille and Paris, then at Atelier Descombes Rampini in Geneva. He has worked mainly on urban projects, collective housing and public spaces in France and Switzerland. In 2019, he becomes co-founder of the architecture, landscape and urban planning agency les Marneurs.
With les Marneurs, he won the Albums des Jeunes Architectes et Paysagistes 2023, the Médaille d'Architecture (Prix Delarue 2023) from the Académie d'Architecture and the Palmarès des Jeunes Urbanistes 2022.
Based in Paris and Brussels, Les Marneurs carry out projects on a wide range of scales: project management for public spaces (Anderlecht, Brussels, Huy, Coulanges-lès-Nevers, Commercy, etc.), the transformation of sensitive natural sites and the creation of new urban spaces.), the transformation of sensitive natural sites on the coast (Port-des-Barques, Bidart, Aytré), the design of agricultural or productive parks (Charleroi, Toulouse) and the construction of multi-family housing (Strasbourg, Toulouse), the renovation of several reading rooms at the Sainte-Geneviève library in Paris, the installation of a stone micro-architecture in Sauliac-sur-Célé, as well as numerous urban and landscape studies in La Rochelle, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Etretat, Fleury-Mérogis, Nice and Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
The name "Les Marneurs" first embodies their meeting at the École d'Architecture de la Ville & des Territoires de Paris-Est (Marne-la-Vallée). This reference also reflects their desire to anchor the project in the field, in its relationship with the ground. Their approach incorporates climate change issues at every stage of the design process: from the consideration of resources (soil, water, energy, living resources, construction methods) and risks (urban heat islands, drought, flooding, marine submersion, etc.), to the construction of a common narrative and project management and implementation methods.
He has been teaching at the École d'architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est since 2017. He has taught in the Transformations and Metropolises Master's programs as well as in the second year.
